I did once hit a Kha’ak cluster with them, which was fun but not terribly effective. The bomb launchers are less useful so far, mainly because they’re slow (and I’ve only got two of them as yet). The Ions in the front pair well with the GCs, because they do pretty good shield damage (the GCs seem to do less, which is only because they miss due to being slow), but then once the shields are down it’s usually only one or two volleys to finish off whatever it is thats in front of me. The Gauss Cannons absolutely destroy corvettes, though–haven’t tried them on anything bigger yet. The Flak and PBEs do a pretty good job of mincing up the fighters–once I figure out how to get them in range–and the PRGs are also hand for any trailing fighters and they usually get the missiles, too. I named it “Irrational Exuberance” and have it outfitted with 4x Gauss Cannon (two on each side), 2x PBE, 2x Flak (one of each on top/bottom), two PRGs in the back and 5x Ion something-ers + 2x Incendiary Bomb Launchers in the main armament. …brand new Shrike! Basically it kicks ass. I had no trouble cleaning up the fleet though, in my… Yikes! I tried to recall my fighters (Gold Wing (4x Nova) + the hauler) but two of them didn’t make it back. I was plinking along, and then decided to launch my fighters, and then all of a sudden this enormous fleet jumps in–maybe 3 clusters and 4-5 corvettes. It was a “destroy the fleet in a Kha’ak sector” mission, and after I did so I figured I’d take out the Kha’ak base that was in the sector, just for fun. Speaking of punches, I lost Gold Two (Nova Vanguard) and a Teladi Falcon Hauler I was using for transport during one of the Kha’ak missions. This is actually quite a bit lower than I normally do for games part of it is the structure of the game, and part of it is that for whatever reason I’m more inclined to roll with the punches. Probably 5 hours or so of the 92 is game time that I’ve “lost” either due to reloads or crashes (the computer, not the game, long story). I’m going to guess I’ve probably let it run for 2-3 hours unattended–not intentionally, just because the game was running when something came up and I figured might as well. I guess that’s a good thing? The wife is out of town so I got a pretty long session in yesterday. I’m at about 30 million, which is the shrike purchase price, so once I get to ~45 or so I’ll do it.Īccording to Steam I have 92 hours played… which is way more than I thought. I cleaned out my factories (the main factory, the distillery, and a couple mines) to the tune of maybe 15 million or so, which doesn’t sound like too much but it was fairly soon after I last cleaned them out, so I was pretty pleased. Oh yeah, I’ve decided I’m going to save up for a Shrike (M7). It was fun to blow stuff up and I went up a Teladi rank, which will be helpful for purchasing the Shrike. On the plus side, I found a pirate base, did a delivery mission for them, and then a sector patrol + station defense (simultaneously) for the Teladi. The OTAS missions were mostly violent, which means they’re nice and fast, except for the one follow-the-donkey mission I got that sent me cruising through like four or five sectors into Teladi space. It’s definitely a pretty nice TP–mainly for the faster top speed–but I’m still pretty underwhelmed. Finally got the first Terracorp reward–an Advanced Express (TP). Did a several corporation missions (OTAS, Plutarch, Terracorp)–those are starting to get somewhat tedious.

There’s one treasure hunt where you have to find beacons, fly up to them, and then discover that they’re not what you’re looking for but rather a bunch of Xenon. I think the next OFF mission I’ll give it a shot, and probably call in my corvette for support. I also picked up a Chimera (named “Risky Decision”) with the idea that I’d want something a little more… fun… to fly around in. I called them in to help with the sector defense mission, and they did a quite respectable job on the Kha’ak corvette, but since the only other opposition was a cluster that I took out with a single spectre, there was little risk. Turns out I actually have three Nova Raiders, so now Gold Wing consists of Slasher (the Nova Vanguard), and Gold Leader, Gold Two, and Gold Three, the raiders. Went through another OFF escort mission as well as a “destroy enemies in this sector” mission. I set a CLS freighter to purchase from all the teladianium foundries and trading stations at the average price and deliver to the hub (good thing for the “generate waypoints” command), hopefully that will speed it up. What it comes down to is that I really need to ramp up the teladianium production. So I’ve got 5000 ore sitting at the station and a massive overproduction of the stuff across all my mines. I thought maybe if I used the dock manager to remove Ore from the Hub list and then dock with ore it would trigger the mission’s acceptance of ore, but that didn’t work.
